Can you build a straight around a corner?

The other night during our weekly friendly poker game, one of my mates tried to build a straight around a corner.  I mean like this Q-K-A-2-3. This would also be a straight around a corner J-Q-K-A-2. You could also call it a ‘wrap-around straight’ I suppose. It’s certainly a non-standard poker hand and I don’t know of any variation of poker where you are allowed to do this. I know there are variants were you can consider ace be a both a high and low card but this is something different. Please correct me if I’m wrong of course!  Naturally, my mate’s argument was that since we were playing at home we could invent whatever rules we pleased … make our very own house rules if you please. But we hadn’t even decided on this rule before he decided it suited him!! Argghh!!!!
