The Money Night Football promotion currently being showcased at DoylesRoom provides poker players with plenty of exciting punting options. All it takes is some poker smarts and a ‘football friendly’ screen name to get the ball rolling. If you’re wondering where 10-time WSOP champion Doyle Brunson pulled his latest ace from, you’re clearly already at DoylesRoom. I’m a big fan of DR and I was pleasantly surprised to find this latest poker promotion in full flight at the poker champs site.

Money Night Football

As the name suggests, this football-style promotion is kicking off to rapturous applause. It’s the fusion of online poker and the NFL. And getting started is a cinch. Players need only make minor changes to their existing screen name (to promote their favorite NFL team or player) or register a new account with an NFL/player name included.

How this exciting promotion works?

Poker players will be thrilled to know that between 13th September and the 4th October 2010, they’ll be in the hunt for big cash prizes and exciting poker-football gaming. Doyles Room will be hosting two $10+1 Money Night Football events. They are scheduled to take place on Mondays at 18h00 Eastern Time. Once you’ve changed your name to reflect an NFL team or a football player, then you stand a chance of a rollicking real-money finish. The $500 Kamikaze contest is scheduled for the following Wednesday at 15h45 Eastern Time. I’m pretty excited to pit my skills against poker’s finest and the Money Night Football contest appears to be the ideal platform to do it.

Folks are always asking me for the best poker advice. If there was a way to provide a watertight playing strategy, then nobody would be losing at poker. Despite this, there are many fantastic ways to get the ball rolling by following simple poker advice. Let’s get started with the most fundamental tips of all. We’ve all heard that practice makes perfect – so much so that the words ring hollow for many of us. But in poker, as in life – this is a tried and tested strategy.

The golden rule is this: play as much poker as possible. And I’m not talking about going out to register on poker sites and making hefty deposits. I’m talking about playing at a wide range of free online poker rooms. Chalk up as much poker experience as you can before wagering for real money. And when you’re ready to start wagering, then shop around. There are so many poker rooms competing for your hard-earned cash that you should always get the best sign-up bonus offers.

Another important playing tip is this: know your poker hands. This can’t be stressed enough. If you don’t know what hand you’re holding, then you’re not going to know how to beat your opponents. Hand rankings are really important too. When you choose a poker room, make sure to choose only a reputable online poker gaming operator. There are many to choose from but only regulated and licensed operators should be played at.

I’ve seen lots of success with players using poker playing software. These types of programs are quick and easy to run and they can assist you in making better betting decisions. If you’re unsure of what cards to hold and what cards to fold, then these programs will certainly help you to formulate a better poker playing strategy. This brings me to the next point which is really important: bankroll management. I can’t stress it enough but managing your bankroll will be your saving grace in poker.

And yeah, don’t play every hand. You should use judgment in deciding which hands to stay in and when to fold. There’s no point throwing good money after bad cards – no matter how well you feel you can bluff. And after it’s all said and done, remember the golden rule: play sober. Many poker fundis have lost massive bankrolls by making poor calls while under the influence. Take a peek at this video that’ll definitely lighten your mood.

Given the fierce competition in online poker rooms today, it’s little surprise that there are so many potentially lucrative promotions to take advantage of. The bonuses that are offered by online poker rooms are not always the same as those offered by online casinos to non-poker players. However, online poker rooms do also offer a wide variety of bonuses which I’ve attempted to describe here for you. A poker room may not offer every one of these bonuses but these are the bonuses you can expect to come across when searching for a good online poker room.

Welcome or Sign Up Bonus

Firstly there’s the good old sign up bonus that we’re all familiar with by now as its offered by every online poker room. These tend be a bit smaller, however, than with online casino bonuses. Amounts and wagering requirements will vary between poker rooms.

Reload Bonus

Poker rooms are known to offer reload bonuses more frequently than online casinos. Some offer them only a couple of times a year whilst others offer them to loyal players more regularly like William Hill.

No Deposit Bonus

This is a type of bonus that doesn’t require you to deposit any money at all. The poker room will just add money to your account as an incentive to keep you playing with them. These types of bonuses are less common but more likely to be found in the new online poker rooms since they are trying to entice new players to test out a new poker room.

Bad Beat Bonus

Bad beat bonuses are offered less than other types of poker bonus unfortunately. This is a bonus that is given to a player holding a great poker hand and is on the verge of winning but was in the end beaten by an even better hand in the showdown.

Nathanael Seet is among the group of young, educated professional poker players in Singapore who make more than enough from the game they love to live the high life. Seet steadily created a name for himself since he started playing poker in about 2005. And these days he is now regarded as the most successful poker player to ever come out of Singapore, or perhaps even Asia. In fact, Seet denies that he’s a professional poker player but on the other hand, admits that poker is only form of income! He does have a backup career up his sleeve, however, as he’s also an undergraduate of the Singapore Management School. His poker skills and strengths lie in live games rather than online and often plays in cash games in Las Vegas and Macau. He finished in 6th place in the 2008 APPT and here’s an interview with him during that event.

I’ve been fishing around for an answer to this question and I found that it is not really all that straight forward. Whilst it sounds as if the law in Singapore regarding poker has been considerably relaxed over the past few years, there is still little information and a great deal of confusion – particularly about online poker.

The bottom line seems to be that its legal to play a ‘friendly game of poker’ in a private residence. The legislation that governs playing games for money is the Common Gaming House Act. This act provides that a poker venue cannot be open to the public and even if the venue (such as your house) is not open to the public, it cannot be used for ‘habitual’ gambling. The court has apparently interpreted ‘habitual’ to mean that your home, club or business cannot be used ‘primarily’ for gaming purposes.

Now online poker is something entirely different and does indeed seem to be illegal. There are many (high profile) online players in Singapore and even seem happy enough to publicise the fact (like Bryan Huang who I mentioned last week). I’ve find many other Singaporean players who blog about their poker experiences and none have talked about any problems with the long arm of the law. And in fact many have commented that they have never heard about anyone being prosecuted for internet gambling. So if it is fact illegal, there is certainly no enforcement of the law by the Singaporean authorities (other than a number of poker sites that can’t be accessed from Singapore).

But as I said, since this is a murky issue, let me know your thoughts or experiences …
